Accessing Enterprise Business Tools at a Not-for-Profit Price

Situation:

The Independent Living Housing Society of Greater Victoria (ILHS) is a non-profit organization that has been in the community for over forty years. ILHS supports adults with a disability to live independently in a variety of housing options throughout greater Victoria. ILHS had been using free, consumer focused technology tools to run their organization — including Gmail for email, and Dropbox to store and share their files. As a not-for-profit their paramount concern was to minimize operational and capital expenditures.

Challenges:

The systems they had in place met their needs until they ran out of space on the free version of Dropbox. They quickly discovered there would be a significant cost to switch to the paid version of Dropbox to increase the limit on their file storage space while they were also dissatisfied with how documents were stored, classified and shared. ILHS were anxious to move their organizational information to a new Canadian-based Cloud file storage solution as the team had started storing files locally on their computers until they found an answer. The key was to find a solution that met their needs and fit their budget.
